The deal is simple. Identify a piece of your art worth $100 or more and commit to send the proceeds from its sale to the Committee to Protect Journalists. You sell it, you donate the proceeds. This website can serve as a catalog and a link to your website, and a record of successful sales and donations, but it cannot get in the middle of transactions.

If you are interested please contact Robert Manz at rmanzpho@gmail.com for more details.

Note: there is exactly one donee envisioned here. There are plenty of worthy causes. The march of evil threats to democracy at this moment are legion. Any attempt to qualify various worthy causes as substitutes would take more time than any of us have. If you have a cause you prefer, by all means promote and sell your work for it. Probably we could link to that here, but no more.

I know that for me, her speech was a chance to resolve weeks of anger and rage and channel it through my art for a purpose that could benefit our democracy and democracies across the planet.  So I posted a statement on Facebook  got some feedback and expressions of interest, and am charging ahead.  If you are a Cape Cod artist and would like to participate please contact me at rmanzpho@gmail.com.

Right now my thinking is to exhibit and offer for sale all submissions online at this site, and at one or more venues/events/shows across the Cape in the coming months.  The only requirement for participation is that all artist proceeds be donated to the Committee to Protect Journalists.  The mechanics remain to be determined.  It can be as simple as offer a work, list it here, sell it in your studio and send a check to the Committee.  There is NO FEE to submit here.  I can imagine that shows at venues may require some payment to the venue.... that remains to be seen.

Please check into my Facebook page for ongoing discussions among participants.  Send me a friend request and I will accept.

I POSTED THIS ON JANUARY 13.

"Take your broken heart turn it into art"

I mentioned an idea earlier this week in response to Meryl Streep's call to protect journalists in the face of the current threat in the U.S. I've been thinking about it all week and will continue to do so.

But here it is in its current form. I am thinking of asking Cape Cod artist friends if they would be willing to participate in a sale/auction to benefit the Committee to Protect Journalists. If you want to participate, you commit to all proceeds from the sale of your work to benefit the Committee to Protect Journalists. You also commit to providing a physical venue for showing your art -- studio, gallery, or other. Your work will also be shown on a website dedicated to this benefit and offered for sale there. Sell it in your venue, sell it on the site, it doesn't matter, all proceeds to the Committee to Protect Journalists.

This is the idea so far. I'm committed to donating, and would be glad to do the website, although I can think of more talented people to ask or work with.

That's my thinking so far. A certain press conference this week was a stimulus to refining the idea.

I will say that as an artist selling to the public I decided some time ago that although I would not discourage anyone from buying my art, I had no desire to dissociate my art from my heart (politics) in public fora such as FB. I find this an opportunity to offer my art for a cause that seems pressing for the defense of our democracy, and democracies around the planet.
